Women's History Month: Kelsey

Meet Kelsey. A sweetheart who is a wonderful and loyal friend and hard worker.

Kaylyn Gabbert: What are some of your favorite memories from growing up?

Kelsey: Baking Christmas cookies with my mom, getting mint skittles every time I visited my grandma (my special treat from her), playing outside in my tree house and on my trampoline.

KG: I had no idea there were mint Skittles. That is so cool. What kind of Christmas cookies did you bake? Sugar cookies? Peanut butter ones with the Hershey Kiss?

K: Yes the used to exist! They had them in peppermint and spearmint but the peppermint ones were always my favorite they unfortunately don’t sell them anymore. And as for the cookies yes we made sugar cookies and peanut butter blossoms, we made my favorite which is snowball cookies, we even made homemade rock candy and chocolate cookie bars

KG: What are snowball cookies? They sound interesting. Also what's rock candy? Sorry for all the questions; I was never one to be in the kitchen and was lucky to have a spouse who was great at and loved to cook and bake.

Snowball cookies are very similar to the dough you would make sugar cookies with but you add chopped walnuts you roll them into tiny balls and cook them and as soon as they come out of the oven before they cool down you want to roll them into powdered sugar and it ends up looking like a snowball. Rock Candy is melted flavored and colored sugar that you pool it flat then break or make into shapes that are then covered with powdered sugar lol I think I may have been obsessed with powdered sugar as a kid now that I think of it😂

KG: Have you heard of Women's History Day before now?

K: Yes I have more specifically women’s history month.

KG: Not many know about the whole month, so I'm glad you do. When did you learn about Women's History Month?

K: I believe I may of heard of it in school

KG: I like your school much better than any of the many I've gone to because not one of them had taught me that growing up.

K: Some stuff I learned has been helpful🤣

KG: I know it sounds like I'm trying to hire you for a job, but it's always important for people to know this about themselves. What do you believe is your greatest strength?

KMy empathy but I also feel it’s my greatest weakness sometimes as well.

KG: I can fully understand feeling like empathy is a strength and a weakness, but I always see it as more of a strength in so many than a weakness. You've got a great heart.

K: 💜 thank you!

KG: What are some of your favorite hobbies?

KAnything art related! I love crafting and having new creative outlets!

KG: Do you have any favorite creative hobbies?

K: I love to paint and draw, I also used to enjoy making decorative candles I don’t do them as much anymore due to my migraines but during Covid lock down that was my main hobby I tried to sell them too but now it’s more of a cute gift idea for loved ones.

KG: As one who suffers from migraines as well, I'm sorry to hear that.

K: Thank you so much sorry you do as well.💕
